we now have (hot) running water

Because the pipes to our toilet and kitchen were "a bit" rusted, we had to replace them, it was taking 45 seconds to get 1 litre of water through into the kitchen.

First we had to find out where the old pipes go and where the new ones would fit in, easier said than done.

wooden  floor - easy!
                cement and gravel - ok...

But the cement floor in the utilityroom was built to last (reinforced concrete) - no way to dig a trench in there even with the electric power hammer, and that was also where the T joint to the toilet was situated.

Got most of the old pipes out, the joints were solid but we heard a roumor that heating might help...

Joooohn, here is wood everywhere - don't burn our home down...
it worked :) Apart from under the concrete we were able to remove all the old pipes.

And lacking an end stopper (we forget to get one and wanted to be able to still use the crapper) we built a temporary watersource for the dog...

The old pipes - no wonder...that's at least 40 years of rust built up in there, never seen a pipe so bad, cool no? no wonder the water couldn't get through.

The one below was one of the good bits.

This was one of the not so good.

They can't go in the floor, so the only solution is along the wall...

lot of zig zag but including the the toilet: 46 soldered joints in total and all sealed - not bad John for not having soldered in 25 years

Laying the new beton...this should last a few years till we can rip the whole floor up and replace the joists that looked in a pretty sad state. It's an old house.

we built a little bridge but our wischmopp thought it's about time that he left his mark...

and the new layed carpet brings a bit of colour to the hallway...

We bought a new heater for the kitchen and now have near normality. It made us appreciate how we take things for granted, like water, and especially hot water.

Once again our lovely old house gave us a problem to sort out but we fixed it and can now move on to the next job!

This time we're going upstairs into the loft, there's a load of crap to clean up, a smoke house to remove and a hole to cut through the ceiling to allow a higher place for the shower, this should be fun.
